ABOUT FAMILY SEARCH INTERNATIONAL

Family Search International is the largest genealogy organization in the world and global leader in historic records preservation and access. It is a non-profit volunteer-driven organization sponsored by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Family Search and its predecessors began actively gathering, preserving, and sharing genealogical records worldwide over 100 years ago and has microfilmed billions of the world’s genealogical records from over 200 countries since 1938. In many cases this was the first and only time that these deteriorating originals records were filmed.

Family Search continues to preserve the master copies of its original microfilms in its Granite Mountain Records Vault as an added backup to the digital copies that are now online. The vault also serves as a safe repository of genealogical collections of original records, and rare books from around the world.

Millions of people access the FREE genealogical services and resources offered by Family Search International through its Family History Center in Salt Lake City, Utah, its www.familysearch.org website and/or one of its over 5,000 local family history centers in 129 countries.

As early as the fall of 1999, 640 million names had been added to their family trees and hits to the website had surpassed 1.5 billion.
